This series of paintings was commissioned by a massage therapist for her business. For this project, she wanted an oriental themed design with Chinese symbols for longevity, joy, peace, and health. We discussed elements to include in each image, so each of the images has a personal significance and meaning. The Chinese symbols and certain elements in the image are three-dimensional. Each image is custom framed with hand-wrapped suede mats and a wide bamboo frame to complement the decor of her business.
This project was commissioned for a newly built building in an elementary school in Albuquerque, NM. The new building included a cafeteria, gym, and library. A banner featuring the school's bear mascot was painted on the wall of the cafeteria. An 8'x8' three-dimensional book element was constructed to hang from the ceiling in their new library, and I was asked to paint the lettering and illustration. The architect selected a Ralph Waldo Emerson quote to feature in the open pages of the book. Additional elements of this project not shown on this site include candy-striping archways in the library.
This project was commissioned by a general contractor for their design center located in a historical building in Belen, NM. In the process of remodeling the building, the business owner ran into issues removing the plaster from the original brick walls which they initially wanted to fully expose. I was consulted for ideas on how to incorporate the plastered sections of wall into their design in order for them to meet their grand opening deadline. Since New Mexico is rich with beautiful landscapes and skies, southwest style buildings, and historical ruins, we decided to create a mural that gave the illusion of brick ruins with scenery behind them. This large-scale mural was completed in a room with 12-foot ceilings and spanned walls over 70 feet long.
This project was commissioned by a church in Albuquerque, NM. They wanted to refresh and update the room used to teach children ages three to five. They built a puppet stage and wanted it to be painted with a Noah's Ark theme to match the style of the area rug. The two windows where the animals are painted open up to reveal the puppet show. On the opposite side of the room was outdated built-in cabinetry. Instead of demolishing the useful storage space, it was painted white and the Noah's Ark theme was continued by painting a rainbow and the animal alphabet on the cabinet doors. Since the room was used for small children, coloring book style illustrations were used.
The client who commissioned this project had an ostrich egg that they wanted painted with a southwest landscape. A custom-made wooden base was built to display the egg once it was completed.
